German content solutions provider relies on Alfalite technology to broadcast Qatar 2022 matches
Huelva, 22 November 2022.- A 132-square-meter LED wall Alfalite, the only European manufacturer of LED displays, has been selected as the central element of PLAZAMEDIA’s new hybrid studio near Munich to broadcast all matches of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The set will use camera and multi-camera tracking systems from Mo-Sys, which has also been the supplier of Alfalite’s LED display in this facility.
PLAZAMEDIA GmbH is one of Germany’s leading producers of live entertainment and sporting events and a provider of intelligent digital content solutions. The company has chosen an Alfalite Modularpix Pro VP XR 1.9 ORIM® curved LED wall wall measuring 33 meters wide by 3.5 meters high in a U-shape for its new hybrid studio at AGROB Medienpark. There, Deutsche Telekom will broadcast all 64 World Cup matches live from Qatar on MagentaTV, including 23 live matches.
The new state-of-the-art XR LED studio in Ismaning, near Munich, will create a unique experience for spectators watching the matches from home and from the studio.
Mo-Sys and the Spanish company Alfalite installed the LED mural in record time, pleasantly surprising PLAZAMEDIA. ORIM (Optical Resin Injection Module) technology is a new LED panel termination system using an optical resin injection that improves the accuracy between modules (<0.5mm). It also provides an enlarged horizontal and vertical viewing angle of 175º.
LED panels with ORIM technology have superior anti-static electrical protection (ESD > 10kV), improved heat dissipation parameters, and excellent resistance to impacts, liquids, chemical agents, and fire (UL94-0 compliance). They are also easier to clean, suffer less deterioration and have the shortest repair time on the market.
The Alfalite Modularpix Pro VP XR model has a fine pixel pitch of 1.9 millimeters, optical parameters and a cd/m2 > brightness of 1,800 nits. This product has revolutionized the LED screen market, providing a solution for virtual production or mixed reality for broadcast, cinema, series or advertising.
Two additional features make Alfalite panels stand out from other LED displays on the market. One is the low average power consumption (35 watts) and the other is the low levels of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC Certification), which allow Alfalite panels to coexist with other electronic systems without suffering interference, as is often the case in television studios or film sets.
The 350-square-meter hybrid studio combines the architecture of the existing set with a digitally generated virtual extension (augmented reality) in a 360° environment. Four cameras will interact with virtual and real-world elements in real-time from Alfalite’s giant LED mural during the 29 days of the FIFA World Cup.
Jesús Cabrera, CEO of Alfalite, says: “We are delighted that such a prestigious company as PLAZAMEDIA has chosen our ORIM LED Wall for their innovative new XR LED studio.” He adds, “It’s fantastic to be working with these technology partners and continuing to improve our technology with Mo-Sys.”
FIFA World Cup fans in Germany will enjoy a unique augmented reality experience with 14 hours of daily programming, including live matches directly from Qatar and discussions with commentators in the studio.
To ensure that all camera movements are transferred to the virtual world, the position of the studio’s four cameras will be constantly tracked and data will be transferred to the render engines using Mo-Sys Startracker camera tracking system and Mo-Sys mixed reality streaming bMR system.
